2018 Community Garden Renewal Form

  1. 2018 Community Garden Renewal Form

This form is for existing gardeners ONLY.

  2. 20x20 example: 6A 10x10 example: A6

  3. Upgrade to 20x20 Plot:

If you are interested in upgrading to a 20x20 plot, please check the box and you will be contacted when one becomes available. (In the order in which the renewals are received.)

  4. Rules and Etiquette:

Please read and abide by the following:

  5. Plot Registration fee is $50 per year for a 20’ X 20’ plot and $25 per year for a 10’ X 10’ plot. This fee will help defray the cost of water, garden tools etc. Each member will receive a key to the tool shed where we will provide a limited number of gardening tools. There is a bulletin board in the shed for members to leave notes and communicate if needed with other members.

  6. Priority is given to City of Woodstock residents. Plot registration begins on April 1 of each year for Woodstock residents. Non-Woodstock residents can register on or after April 15 of each year. There's a limit of one plot per person until June 1. At that time any remaining plots will be assigned on a first come first served basis.

  7. The garden area is open from dawn until dusk, seven days a week. Children are welcome in the garden; however, they must be accompanied by an adult and supervised at all times. Plot corners are clearly marked with stakes. Please do not remove these stakes during the season. Posts throughout the site are permanent boundary markers and should not be moved. Please help us make the garden a peaceful place by leaving amplified music (boom boxes, radios) at home, and observing quiet hours from 9 P.M. to 8 A.M. so neighboring residents are not disturbed. Gardeners are encouraged to add their garden cuttings and fruits and vegetable waste from this community garden to the designated compost area. Please, no household or private yard waste. We request that all members volunteer their time for general maintenance (especially adjacent walkways) to keep the garden site looking good. The use of the site is contingent on our ability to maintain it. Check the bulletin board for chores that need to be done. Please dispose of weeds and plant materials in designated compost areas. Please be considerate of your neighbors. Do not plant sprawling crops or tall ones that might interfere with others. To avoid overspray onto other plots, do not spray pesticides on windy days. Use of herbicides is prohibited. The use of pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers is strictly prohibited in the organic section. All plots will be inspected periodically. Plots that have not been planted, are weedy, or do not meet the guidelines, will be notified. Failure to respond within 14 days may result in forfeiture of the plot. Please respect others’ plots: do not enter or disturb or remove anything—including weeds—unless the gardener is present and has given permission. Harvest only from your assigned plot. No stealing of anything is permitted. Should it become known that you have taken anything: vegetables, tools, hose, plants or anything else, you will lose the use of your plot. "If vandalism or theft occurs, notify the Parks and Recreation Department immediately. Dogs are not allowed in the garden. Unattended watering is not permitted. Notify the parks and recreation department of any leaks in the water line. Make sure all faucets are off when you leave the garden. Keep hoses neatly rolled up near the water riser. Individual fencing of plots is not allowed. No debris of any kind should be left at the site. Use trash receptacles available next to the gardens. Notify parks and recreation department if you are no longer able to tend your plot; will be absent for a long period of time; or have asked a friend to tend your garden. Please park only in the parking lot. Do not drive vehicles on the grass. Please conserve the use of water. Use mulch or hay to reduce water evaporation. The bulletin board is a way for all of us to stay in touch. Please use it for any garden-related purposes. Each gardener must clear his or her plot of all inorganic materials before fall plowing dates. If you have a year-round plot, turn under or remove annual plant residues. Crops must be harvested once they are mature. If you do not feel you can use all of them, there are many food banks and senior citizens who could use extra vegetables. Please let the parks and recreation department know if you have more than you can use.

  8. If your garden is not maintained and becomes overgrown with weeds, we reserve the right to take the plot back. Overgrown plots become a nuisance and promote the spread of pests into other participant’s plots. Do not rent a plot if you don’t intend to regularly maintain it.

If a plot is not maintained and thus taken over by the City, it will be covered with a black tarp. It will not be re-assigned. The gardener will lose the privilege to renew their plot and it will become available during open registration (April 1st) on a first come, first served basis.

  9. Garden plots are assigned on an annual basis. Garden plots will not be re-assigned during the current enrollment period.

Please do not call or email and ask if a plot can be assigned to someone you know. To keep the program fair, plots are only available on a first come, first served basis during the next open enrollment period. (April 1st each year.)

  10. Your compliance with the above regulations and etiquette guidelines will help everyone have an enjoyable and prosperous garden. Failure to comply with above regulations during the season, may result in a loss of future gardening privileges.
